Basswood Shutters are made of the finest selection of timbers and is kiln dried to a precise percentage to ensure long lasting stability and allows up to a 950mm panel width and can be used in a number of applications including Sliding, Bi Fold and standard hinged.
The Basswood Shutter can be made with a choice of tilt bar positions and can also be ordered with hidden metal strip or Pinion Rack allowing full uninterrupted views when the shutters are open.
Basswood has become one of the most widely used materials for shutters in the global market. This is due to its resistance to warping, easy workability, durability and its acceptance of a variety of finishes.
Basswood is a member of the hardwood family. The use of Basswood for musical instruments including guitars and piano soundboards reinforces its properties as a stable and reliable timber.
The maximum panel width for our Basswood shutter is 950mm wide and a mid rail is required for any panel over 1800mm high. When wider panels are required, a centre stile can be used up to an overall maximum panel size of 1200mm.
Basswood shutters are available in a range of standard paint colours and 'Image' timber Grain.
Painted shutters are painted with five coats of two part polyurethane paint, which are hand sanded between coats.
Two part polyurethane is the favoured paint of the boat building industry due to its colour brilliance, durability and resistance to cracking and peeling. These qualities make the paint an ideal selection to withstand the heat and UV Rays in Australian windows.
‘Image’ Timber Grain Shutters
By reproducing Jarrah Image, Cedar Image and Oak Image grains, our ‘Image’ products provide the warmth and characteristics of timber.
The ‘Image’ finish has been laboratory tested and fading is not visible to the naked eye. As the finish is applied wet and forms to the sections, it will not peel or crack. The ‘Image’ finish provides a consistent look across all sections of timber, eliminating any mismatching resulting from varying undertones in the raw materials.

Care & Maintenance
Care MUST be taken when cleaning your shutters. Generally, dust may be easily brushed off at regular intervals. Tilt the louvres almost all the way in one direction. Using a feather duster, soft cloth, dust mitt, or vacuum cleaner with a soft furniture attachment, clean each louvre individually. Then flip the louvres in the other direction and repeat.
To remove more significant dirt build-up, wipe louvres with a damp cloth. Add mild liquid soap if necessary. Any cleaning product that contains abrasives or caustic components should not be used, as it can adversely affect the finish. Border Blinds recommend that you NEVER immerse your shutters in water, as this can affect the paint and cause the shutter to warp.
With regular maintenance, your shutters should last and look like new for many years to come. If in you have any concerns about cleaning please contact us for further information.
